New ultrasound test may predict varices treatment success
NCT ID NCT05597488
First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a special ultrasound test (EUS-PPGM) can predict how well varices (enlarged veins in the esophagus) respond to banding treatment in people with cirrhosis. Researchers will measure pressure in the liver's blood vessels before and after treatment. They want to see if higher pressure at 3 months means varices are more likely to need further treatment at 1 year. The study involves 160 adults with cirrhosis and varices.
