No-Knife gallbladder fix shows promise in small study
NCT ID NCT04197908
First seen Mar 28, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tested a new procedure called EUS-guided gallbladder drainage (EGBD) as an alternative to surgery for people with acute cholecystitis (a sudden, painful gallbladder infection). Researchers enrolled 30 adults who were eligible for gallbladder removal and used a scope to place a small metal stent to drain the gallbladder. The goal was to see if this less invasive approach could safely resolve the infection without needing surgery.
