Heart bypass study tests safer breathing tube settings

NCT ID NCT07148024

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looked at 76 adults having heart bypass surgery to see if changing the pressure in the breathing tube (endotracheal tube) during the heart-lung machine phase could reduce swelling in the airway. One group had the tube pressure lowered to zero, while the other kept it at normal levels. The researchers used ultrasound to measure any swelling. The goal was to find a safer way to manage the breathing tube during this common heart surgery.
