New pill aims to stop painful gut Flare-Ups after surgery

NCT ID NCT07486921

Summary

This study is testing whether a daily pill called etrasimod can prevent a painful condition called pouchitis in people who have had their colon removed due to severe ulcerative colitis. About 40 high-risk patients will take either etrasimod or a placebo (a dummy pill) for 48 weeks to see if it reduces flare-ups. The main goal is to see if the drug lowers the number of people who get at least one episode of acute pouchitis during the treatment period.
