New glasses aim to halt adult nearsightedness

NCT ID NCT06520124

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses can slow the progression of nearsightedness (myopia) in adults aged 18 to 40. Each participant wears a Stellest lens in one eye and a standard lens in the other, allowing direct comparison. The trial measures changes in eye length and prescription over time, and also checks how comfortable adults find the lenses.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Essilor Stellest spectacle lens (a lens with tiny lenslets designed to slow eye growth)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could give adults a non-surgical way to slow worsening nearsightedness, reducing future eye health risks.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 42 people. The lenses may not work as well in adults as in children, and some people may find them uncomfortable.
