Nerve block may ease pain after spine surgery in teens

NCT ID NCT06196463

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether an ultrasound-guided nerve block (ESP block) given before spinal surgery for scoliosis can lower pain and the need for strong painkillers after the operation. Eleven teenagers took part, with half receiving the block plus general anesthesia and half receiving only general anesthesia. The goal was to see if the block leads to less pain, less opioid use, and faster recovery.
