First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tested whether a special nerve block (ESP block) given before spinal surgery could lower pain and reduce the need for strong painkillers in teens with scoliosis. Eleven adolescents took part, with half receiving the block plus general anesthesia and half receiving only general anesthesia. Researchers measured pain scores and opioid use in the first 24 hours after surgery.
