Simple stomach stretch during cancer surgery could speed recovery

NCT ID NCT07355374

Summary

This study is testing whether gently stretching the stomach's exit valve during esophageal cancer surgery helps patients recover faster. The goal is to prevent a common complication where the stomach empties too slowly after surgery, which can delay healing and prolong hospital stays. Researchers will compare recovery in 116 patients who receive the stretching procedure to those who have standard surgery alone.
