New combo therapy may let some esophageal cancer patients keep their esophagus

NCT ID NCT07317609

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This early-phase study is testing whether giving a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy before any surgery can shrink esophageal cancer enough to allow doctors to remove the tumor through a scope, preserving the esophagus. About 60 adults with a specific type of esophageal cancer will receive the treatment and then be re-evaluated. If the cancer responds well, they may avoid major surgery; if not, standard treatments like surgery or radiation are still options.
