Protein clue may explain anemia after heart surgery
NCT ID NCT05384054
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looked at 150 adults having planned heart valve surgery to see if a protein called erythroferron is linked to hemoglobin levels after surgery. Researchers measured erythroferron right after surgery and tracked hemoglobin changes over time. The goal was to better understand why some patients recover their red blood cells more slowly, which could help manage postoperative anemia.
