Scientists dig into the genetics of apple vs. pear body shapes
NCT ID NCT02728635
First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study looks at why some people store fat around their belly (apple shape) while others store it around their hips and thighs (pear shape). Researchers will take small fat samples from 27 healthy adults and study the epigenetic marks—chemical tags that control how genes work—in the fat cells. The goal is to learn more about the biological reasons behind these different fat storage patterns, which may help future research on obesity and related health issues.
