First seen Feb 27, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study looked at 51 women in labor who wanted an epidural for pain relief. Researchers compared two standard methods of numbing the skin with lidocaine before inserting the epidural needle: one injection just under the skin (intradermal) and one deeper into the fat layer (subcutaneous). The goal was to see which method caused less pain and discomfort during the epidural placement.
