Gut leak study halted: only 6 patients enrolled
NCT ID NCT03742752
First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study aimed to see if feeding through a tube into the gut (enteral nutrition) helps heal leaks after upper digestive surgery better than feeding through a vein (parenteral nutrition). It included adults who had a leak after surgery on the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, pancreas, or weight-loss surgery. The trial was stopped early after enrolling only 6 people, so no strong conclusions could be drawn.
