Scientists test if your fitness tracker really knows how many calories you burn

NCT ID NCT01209572

Summary

This study aimed to create a better mathematical formula to estimate how many calories people burn throughout their day using data from heart rate monitors and activity trackers. Researchers worked with 120 healthy, normal-weight adults aged 18-60. One group stayed in special rooms that precisely measured their calorie burn during various activities, while another group wore the monitors in their normal daily life to test and validate the new calculation method.
