New hope for cancer patients with fluid in the chest or belly

NCT ID NCT04914598

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding Endostar to standard cisplatin treatment helps cancer patients with malignant pleural effusion or ascites (fluid buildup in the chest or belly) go longer without needing another drainage procedure. About 290 adults whose fluid is not well controlled after prior treatments will receive either Endostar or a placebo, both with cisplatin, injected into the body cavity. The goal is to see if the combination delays the need for repeat drainage.
