Race against time: does faster scope stop deadly bleeds in liver patients?

NCT ID NCT04786743

Summary

This study aims to find out if performing a camera scope procedure (endoscopy) urgently within 6 hours is better than waiting 6 to 24 hours for patients with advanced liver disease who have a dangerous bleed from swollen veins in their stomach or esophagus. It will enroll 400 patients and randomly assign them to either the urgent or non-urgent timing group. The main goal is to see which timing leads to fewer patients experiencing another bleed within 42 days.
