CMV and the inner ear: new study explores hidden fluid buildup
NCT ID NCT05229744
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study aimed to find out how often people with a history of congenital CMV infection (a virus passed from mother to baby) and related hearing or balance problems also have a condition called endolymphatic hydrops (fluid buildup in the inner ear). Researchers planned to use MRI scans to check for this fluid buildup in about 18 participants aged 6 months and older. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
