New colonoscope attachment aims to spot hidden polyps

NCT ID NCT03560037

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a device called Endocuff Vision, which attaches to the tip of a colonoscope and has soft projections to flatten folds in the colon, can help doctors find more sessile serrated adenomas—a type of precancerous polyp. Over 400 adults undergoing routine screening colonoscopy were randomly assigned to standard colonoscopy or colonoscopy with the device. The goal was to see if the device improves detection of these hard-to-spot polyps.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Endocuff Vision (a device with soft projections attached to the colonoscope to flatten folds and improve polyp detection)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could help doctors find more precancerous polyps during routine colonoscopies, potentially preventing colon cancer.

What could go wrong

This is a completed study, but the device may not significantly improve detection for all types of polyps. Results may not apply to people with prior polyps or other bowel conditions.
