Could a diabetes drug protect hearts in dialysis patients?
NCT ID NCT05687058
First seen May 24, 2026 ยท Last updated May 24, 2026
Summary
This early-phase study tests whether empagliflozin, a drug already approved for diabetes, heart failure, and kidney disease, is safe for people on dialysis. Researchers will give 24 dialysis patients the drug for 3 months and monitor their health, blood, urine, and heart function. The goal is to gather safety data for a future larger trial, not to cure the disease.
