Old amoeba drug gets new shot at fighting deadly dengue

Summary

This study is testing whether a low-dose, repurposed drug called emetine can stop dengue fever from becoming severe or fatal. It will involve 600 hospitalized adults in Nepal who will take the drug or a placebo pill for 7 days. Researchers will monitor if the treatment reduces deaths or severe complications like organ failure over 28 days.
