New tool could cut unnecessary scans for lung clots in ERs

NCT ID NCT06320236

First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study aims to see if a new bedside tool called Adjust-Unlikely can safely reduce the number of unnecessary imaging tests for pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs) in emergency patients. Currently, many patients are tested with scans that expose them to radiation and are costly, but few actually have the condition. The tool helps doctors decide who truly needs imaging. Researchers will enroll 4,000 emergency patients across Canada to validate the tool's safety and effectiveness.
