Acupuncture with a jolt: new trial tests electric needles for cancer brain fog
NCT ID NCT07583979
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This Phase 3 trial tests whether electroacupuncture—thin needles with mild electric pulses—can ease cognitive problems like memory loss and trouble focusing in cancer survivors. 168 participants will be assigned to real electroacupuncture, sham (fake) acupuncture, or a waitlist. The study will also explore how it might work and whether it is practical to offer in cancer care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
electroacupuncture (a device that delivers mild electrical pulses through thin needles at specific points on the body)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to help cancer survivors think more clearly and feel less mental fog.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 3 trial, but it is not yet recruiting. The sham (fake) acupuncture group helps control for placebo effects, so the real benefit may be small. Also, results from Singapore may not apply to all populations.
