Study questions whether Short-Stay units help or harm vulnerable seniors

NCT ID NCT07302555

First seen Dec 29, 2025 · Last updated Apr 23, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looks at whether elderly patients (75+) with acute medical problems have better outcomes when they go directly to a regular hospital ward from the emergency room, or when they first spend time in a short-stay unit. Researchers will track 2,000 patients to compare 3-month mortality rates between these two hospital pathways. The goal is to understand which approach provides better care for vulnerable older adults.
