New shot could replace IV drips for nerve disease patients
NCT ID NCT06637072
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested whether adults with CIDP, a nerve disorder causing weakness and numbness, could safely switch from regular intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) infusions to a new injectable drug called efgartigimod PH20 SC. Twenty-three participants who were stable on IVIg were given the new drug as a shot under the skin for 12 weeks. The main goal was to see how many could stay on the new treatment without needing to go back to IVIg.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- efgartigimod PH20 SC (a biologic drug given as a shot under the skin)
- What this could lead to
- If this works, it could offer people with CIDP a more convenient treatment option that requires fewer clinic visits than regular IV infusions.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 23 participants and no comparison group. Results may not apply to everyone with CIDP, and side effects or lack of effectiveness could limit its use.
