Eye drops vs. cream: the battle for faster cold sore healing

NCT ID NCT04893577

Summary

This small, completed study tested whether a special eye drop containing EDTA could help heal cold sores faster than the standard over-the-counter cream, Abreva. Researchers enrolled 10 adults with a history of cold sores triggered by sunlight. They used UV light to intentionally trigger an outbreak on participants' lips, then had them apply either the eye drops or the cream five times a day to see which worked better.
