Light therapy may tame rejection in kidney transplants

NCT ID NCT04870437

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests whether a treatment called extracorporeal phototherapy (ECP) can help control chronic antibody-mediated rejection, a major cause of kidney transplant failure. ECP involves taking a patient's blood cells, exposing them to UV light, and returning them to the body to calm the immune system. Researchers will study 30 kidney transplant patients to see if ECP can reduce harmful immune cells and improve transplant survival.
