Blood-filtering therapy may slow lung decline in transplant patients
NCT ID NCT02181257
First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests a treatment called extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) for lung transplant patients who develop bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS), a condition where the airways narrow and breathing gets harder. About 280 Medicare-eligible adults will receive ECP, where blood is treated with light and returned to the body, to see if it slows the decline in lung function. The goal is to manage the disease and improve survival, not to cure it.
