Common virus investigated as hidden culprit in dental implant failures

NCT ID NCT03631849

Summary

This study aimed to understand if the common Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is involved in causing peri-implantitis, a serious infection that can destroy the bone around dental implants and lead to their loss. Researchers studied 30 adults who already had this implant infection to measure EBV levels in the affected areas. The goal was to gather knowledge that could one day lead to better early detection or new treatment approaches.
