Early drain removal may cut infection risk after major pancreas surgery
NCT ID NCT01368094
Summary
This study tested whether removing surgical drains earlier (4 days after surgery) reduces infection rates compared to standard practice (10-15 days) in patients undergoing major pancreas surgery. It involved 141 patients across multiple hospitals in France who had their pancreas partially removed, typically for tumors. The goal was to see if shorter drainage times could lower the risk of wound and internal infections, which are common complications after this type of operation.
