Stenting sooner may ease swallowing woes for esophageal stricture patients
NCT ID NCT06991049
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether placing a temporary stent early or only after repeated dilations works better for people with benign esophageal strictures that don't respond to standard treatment. Twenty adults with trouble swallowing will be followed for at least two years. The goal is to see which approach achieves and maintains a wider esophagus with fewer side effects and less recurrence.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
fully covered self-expandable metal esophageal stent
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that placing a stent earlier helps people with stubborn esophageal strictures swallow better and need fewer procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Stents can cause discomfort, migration, or tissue overgrowth.
