Summary
This study tested a new approach to find tuberculosis (TB) in young children hospitalized with severe pneumonia in six high-risk countries. Researchers wanted to see if using a fast, sensitive test on easy-to-collect samples (like nasal fluid and stool) right when a child arrives at the hospital, and then immediately starting TB treatment for those who test positive, could reduce deaths. The goal was to catch TB early in sick children where it is often missed, to get them the right treatment faster.
