New Two-Drug attack on stroke aims to halt brain damage in its tracks

Summary
This study is testing if giving a powerful new cholesterol-lowering injection (evolocumab) along with standard statin pills within 48 hours of a stroke can prevent patients from getting worse and help them recover better. It will involve about 429 people who have had a stroke caused by a narrowed brain artery. Researchers will compare the new combination to statin pills alone to see which is safer and more effective at preventing early decline and improving 90-day outcomes.
