Two surgical approaches face off for early rectal cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT02885142

Summary

This study aimed to compare two different surgical techniques for removing early-stage rectal cancer and precancerous growths. Researchers wanted to see whether endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) or transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) worked better for complete removal and long-term results. The trial included 368 people with early rectal tumors and was designed to provide clearer evidence on which approach might be more effective.
