Early intervention trial for lung blood vessel disease halted

NCT ID NCT05339087

Summary

This study aimed to see if a drug called riociguat could help control early-stage pulmonary vascular disease, a condition that can lead to high blood pressure in the lungs. It involved 35 adults with connective tissue diseases like systemic sclerosis who showed early signs of the lung condition but were not yet on specific treatment. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either the study drug or a placebo for 24 weeks to measure effects on blood vessel resistance in the lungs and exercise capacity. The trial was terminated early.
