Early surgery may beat watchful waiting for silent heart valve disease

NCT ID NCT03389542

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at people with a severe leaky heart valve (mitral regurgitation) who have no symptoms yet. It compares having surgery early to fix the valve versus waiting and monitoring the condition. The goal is to see if early surgery reduces the risk of death or serious heart problems over five years. About 424 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two approaches.
