Scientists hunt for gum Disease's 'Ticking Clock' in saliva

NCT ID NCT07293481

Summary

This study aims to discover new biological markers that can predict which cases of early gum inflammation (gingivitis) will progress to serious, destructive gum disease (periodontitis). Researchers will analyze saliva, gum tissue, and mouth bacteria from 228 adults with early-stage gum problems using advanced lab techniques. The goal is to identify a simple test to spot high-risk individuals years before major damage occurs, allowing for earlier, more effective interventions.
