First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring certain proteins (cytokines) in the fluid from surgical drains can identify patients who are safe to start eating just 3-4 days after throat cancer surgery, instead of the usual 7 days. The goal is to reduce hospital stays and improve quality of life without increasing the risk of a common complication called a fistula. About 250 adults scheduled for total laryngectomy will take part.
