Pedaling days after paralysis? new trial aims to transform spinal injury recovery

NCT ID NCT07472985

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests whether starting leg cycling within the first week after a traumatic spinal cord injury can reduce complications like pneumonia and pressure sores, and improve long-term recovery. About 102 adults with recent spinal cord injuries will try sitting leg cycling early on, and their progress will be tracked for one year. The goal is to see if early movement is safe and helps the body and nerves heal better than the usual weeks of bed rest.
