New drug trial targets stubborn mucus plugs in COPD lungs

Summary

This study is testing whether an existing injectable drug called dupilumab can help reduce mucus buildup and inflammation in the airways of people with moderate-to-severe COPD. About 218 participants, aged 40-85, will receive either dupilumab or a placebo for 24 weeks while continuing their standard COPD medications. Researchers will use CT scans and breathing tests to see if the drug improves lung function, reduces flare-ups, and enhances quality of life.
