Knee surgery patients may ditch opioids with help from antidepressant

Summary
This study tests whether giving duloxetine, an antidepressant that also relieves pain, before and after knee replacement surgery can lower the need for opioid painkillers. About 150 adults with knee osteoarthritis will take duloxetine or a placebo around the time of their surgery. The goal is to improve pain control and satisfaction while reducing opioid use during recovery.
