Study sheds light on mysterious low white blood cell condition in kids

This study looked back at medical records of 150 children who have a genetic trait called Duffy-null, which is linked to naturally low levels of a type of white blood cell (neutrophils). The goal was to find out how many of these children also have an immune system that attacks their own neutrophils, and whether the severity of the low counts is tied to infections. The research helps doctors better understand this common but poorly studied condition in children.
