Balloons vs stents: which works better for clogged heart arteries?

NCT ID NCT07277114

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether a drug-coated balloon works as well as a drug-eluting stent for people with severe calcium buildup in their heart arteries. About 656 participants will first get a procedure to soften the calcium, then be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. Researchers will track heart-related problems like heart attacks or the need for repeat procedures over one year to see which option is safer and more effective.
