Bandage choice may speed hip surgery recovery, small trial hints

NCT ID NCT07655388

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jul 10, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether the type of wound dressing and how often it's changed can improve healing after hip replacement surgery. Ninety patients aged 65 and older will be randomly assigned to receive either a special capillary-action dressing (VACUTEX™) or standard dressings changed at different intervals. Researchers will track how quickly the wound closes, pain levels, and any complications, aiming to find the best wound care routine.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
VACUTEX™ wound dressing (device) and Octenisept® wound care dressing (procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward better wound care routines after hip replacement, potentially reducing complications and speeding up healing.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (90 people) focused on observation, not a treatment. Results may not apply to all patients or settings, and no major breakthrough is expected.
