Antibiotic pill could slash STI rates in young women

NCT ID NCT06738407

First seen Nov 16, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether taking the antibiotic doxycycline can prevent bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis in adolescent and young adult females aged 13-29 who are at high risk. About 760 participants will be randomly assigned to take doxycycline or not, and researchers will track new STI cases over time. The goal is to see if this approach works and is safe, which could lead to new prevention guidelines.
