Tiny study tests doxycycline for stubborn elbow pain

NCT ID NCT04686799

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This early-stage study tested whether a low-dose antibiotic called doxycycline, combined with exercise, could help people with tennis elbow (elbow tendinopathy). The main goal was to see if patients would take the medicine as prescribed and find the treatment acceptable. Only 21 adults with elbow pain lasting 6 weeks or more took part. The study did not aim to cure the condition, but to see if this approach is worth studying further for easing symptoms.
