Scientists test if common antibiotic can reach key sites to block STIs

NCT ID NCT05853120

Summary

This study aimed to understand how well the antibiotic doxycycline, taken by mouth, reaches rectal and vaginal tissues. Researchers measured drug levels in healthy adults to help design future single-dose prevention strategies that could protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. The goal is to gather data to potentially combine doxycycline with other medications for more effective prevention.
