Simple CT scan could open lifesaving stroke treatment to millions worldwide

NCT ID NCT07001852

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether removing blood clots from the brain up to 72 hours after a stroke can help patients recover better, even when only a basic CT scan is available. Currently, this treatment is only proven within 6 hours and requires advanced imaging that many hospitals lack. The trial will enroll 500 adults with moderate to severe stroke and use automated software to analyze simple CT scans to select eligible patients. If successful, this approach could make lifesaving stroke care accessible to more people, especially in underserved areas.
