Blood thinner timing after polyp removal: sooner may be safe
NCT ID NCT06482333
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether restarting blood thinners (DOACs) right after colonoscopy polyp removal is as safe as waiting two days. About 194 adults on DOACs who need a colonoscopy will be randomly assigned to restart their medication on the same day or two days later. The goal is to compare bleeding and clot risks between the two groups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs)
- What this could lead to
- If early resumption is safe, patients on blood thinners may be able to restart their medication sooner after polyp removal, reducing their risk of blood clots.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial (194 participants) testing timing only, not a new treatment. The results may not apply to all patients or procedures.
