Psychedelic DMT tested as painkiller in small human trial

NCT ID NCT06180759

First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looked at whether DMT, a psychedelic drug, can reduce pain in healthy people. Seventeen volunteers received DMT, ketamine (a known painkiller), or a placebo, and then had mild pain caused by electrical stimulation. The goal was to measure how well DMT blocks pain, including unusual pain like allodynia (pain from light touch). The results will help guide future research on psychedelics for chronic pain conditions.
