Mind-Bending science: can DMT cure depression without the trip?

NCT ID NCT06927076

First seen Apr 04, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study aims to find out whether the antidepressant effects of DMT come from the psychedelic experience itself or from biological changes in the brain. Researchers will give DMT to 112 adults with major depression, but some will receive a sedative (propofol) to block the psychedelic trip. By comparing groups, they hope to separate the role of the subjective experience from direct drug effects.
