Simple cap could stop deadly hospital infections
NCT ID NCT07430215
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using special disinfectant caps on central venous catheters can lower the rate of bloodstream infections in intensive care patients. About 120 adults in a neurological ICU will be monitored. The caps are pre-treated with alcohol and are meant to block germs from entering the bloodstream through the catheter.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

disinfectant caps (pre-treated with 70% isopropanol)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, low-cost way to prevent dangerous bloodstream infections in hospital patients with central lines.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center quality improvement study, not a large randomized trial. The results may not apply to other hospitals or patient groups.
